Gen. Ke Kimyan: Resolving border disputes with talks is better than wars

Reported in English by Khmerization

Gen. Ke Kimyan (pictured), Deputy Prime Minister who is ex-Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Armed Forces, said border resolution through talks is better than through military means.

Speaking during a gift distributing ceremony to 400 poor families in Thmor Puok and Svay Chek districts as well as from Sirisophorn City in Banteay Meanchey province on 7th September, Gen. Ke Kimyan said the Khmer-Thai border disputes can only be resolved through peaceful means. "The tensions of the Cambodian-Thai boder disputes have eased because Cambodia has cut troop numbers along the borders. So, I am of the view that disputes on the negotiating tables are not dangerous like wars on the battlefields", he said.

The general added that Cambodia wants to strengthen co-operation with neighbouring countries, not only for friendship, but for commercial and economic developments also in order to transform border areas into economic zones to lift the standards of living of the people.

We don't want war, but many, many talks have failed miserably. The Thais still occupied our territories and continue to encroach everyday.

Talks should be suspended because they produced no result. Legal means, through international court, or diplomatic means through Asean or the UN should now be sought.

Negotiations without any military, legal or diplomatic pressures will bear no fruit because Thailand is militarily stronger than Cambodia.

Can't help but notice that this guy, Ke Kimyan, sure looks like Idi Amin of Uganda in that military uniform. The face.

General Ke Kimyan, wake the hell up. Cambodia is not a war monger nation. Who were the bastards in black uniform marching into Preah Vihear, General? Who started all the bullshit? Cambodia was doing what is the best interest for Cambodia, in Cambodia's territory, not in Thailand's territory. Whatever Cambodia's interests are not that of Thailand's interest and that is why there were problems.

As much as Cambodia wants peace and security amongst the neighbors and the region, any neighbor to the left or right would be foolish to expect Cambodia to bow down and hand over any territory without Cambodia knowing about it. Nowaday isn't some centuries in the past, where a stronger nation can threaten and wage war against its neighbor just because it can.

Thailand needs to reset the minds of its populations. The mentality of the present is not the same as in the past. The mentality of the past where a stronger nation bullying a smaller and weaker nation to territorial expansion is over. Thailand needs to overhaul its foreign policy toward its neighbors, especially Cambodia. At the rate Thailand is going with Cambodia, there is no doubt that they are destine to have war soon or later. The prophecy had predicted of a great war between Khmer-Siem, the winner shall remain to be seen.
