PHNOM PENH, 6 September 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - Italy signed an
agreement Thursday contributing $200,000 to the second phase of a
project to safeguard Angkor Wat to which the Cambodian government is
contributing $50,000.
"I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the Government and people of Italy for their generous assistance to the socio-economic development of Cambodia, particularly in regard to the safeguarding and restoration of Cambodian cultural heritage," Cabinet Minister Sok An said.
He noted that the Italian team for safeguarding Angkor was formed in 1994, and spent almost $2 million on three phases of its Pre Rup project up until 2005, when the first phase of safeguarding project began involving $565,000 from Italy and $56,000 from the Cambodian government.
