PHNOM PENH, 1 Bovember 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - The opposition Sam Rainsy Party says it
will hold a congress Friday to choose a new leader after Sam Rainsy
resigned to head the new National Rescue Party.
In the absence of other candidates, acting President Kong Korm is expected to be chosen to head the party with Sam Rainsy’s wife Tioulong Saumura becoming deputy president.
The congress is also expected to set a new plan and political strategies for the party which changed its name from the Khmer National Party in 1995.
Sam Rainsy, who lives in exile abroad, previously served as finance minister but was expelled from Funcinpec, the royalist party which formed a coalition government with the Cambodian People's Party after elections in 1993
