Fruit exports increase after some Cambodian workers return back

CHANTHABURI, 3 July 2014 (NNT) - Fruit exports have picked up after some Cambodian workers have returned back to Thailand to work. In Chanthaburi, the governor is urging employers to register migrant workers to help stimulate the economy as sorting and exporting fruits has improved at Klongnarai sub-district in Chanthaburi province after some Cambodian workers have returned to Thailand.

There are new rules set under the military rule that allow Cambodian workers to temporarily cross over and now there is an official alien worker registration procedure. So many Cambodian workers have returned to Thailand and are legally working. As a result, fruit sorting and packaging processed for export are operating in accordance with the market's needs.

At the Baan Laem and the Baan Pakkad border crossing points, there has been open registration for 8 days and Cambodian workers have continuously come to register and things have gone well so far.

Chanthaburi governor Samart Loifah said that the province is urging local leaders and local administration officials to publicize to employers that they should report their alien workers at the One Stop Service center. Many services such as health checkups and job placements are available at the center to facilitate the alien workers.
