The official said that those applicants are Hang Puthea, Executive Director of the Neutral and Impartial Committee for Free and Fair Lelection, who was jointly chosen by Prime Minister Hun Sen and Sam Rainsy, Rong Chhun, President of Cambodian Independence Teachers' Association, Thach Setha, President of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Association and a member of Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).
Other applicants are Sia Phearun, Director of Housing Rights Task Force, Ouk Suy, a member of CNRP's Committees of the Board of Directors, Moth Chantha, Director of Kem Sokha's office, Samrith Duonghak, a candidate close to Sam Rainsy, and Kong Narith.
Other candidate applying to be members of NEC are Kuoy Bunrouen, lawmaker of CNRP, Ket Khy, Deputy Secretary General of the National Assembly from CNRP, Sik Bun Hok from Cambodian People's Party and other officials.
Among the applicants, Sik Bun Hok of CPP and Kuoy Bunroeun of CNRP are likely to be President and Vice President of the new National Election Committee, respectively, CNRP's senior official said.
The Permanent Committee of the National Assembly will hold a meeting on 7 April to examine the list of candidates applying to be members of new National Election Committee (NEC), and will send back to the two political parties for examination.
The reformed NEC has nine members -- four members from CPP and four others from CNRP and the remaining one is chosen by the two parties' consensus, according to political agreement between two parties.
The NEC members must hold only Khmer citizenship.
