PHNOM PENH (Khmer Time) —Ouk Pick Samnag, one of the 11 Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) activists sentenced to seven years in prison on Tuesday, has received a second dose of bad news: his eldest son died from a liver infection.
Hang Measa, Mr. Samnag's son, died Wednesday.
“Because we have no money, I still have to work although my brother died," said Khem Salis, his sister. "But I cannot do anything when I hear somebody call me and say 'please take the phone, your father was sent to prison again.' I just cried.”
The municipal court sentenced the CNRP activist to seven years in Prey Sar prison for his role in the Freedom Park riots last year.
Mrs. Salis said this case is an injustice for her father, who did nothing the court claimed he did.
“The victims were charged by the court,” she said. “I do not request help from the government or real justice because I know that no one will answer when we ask for help,” she said.
Mrs. Salis said no high CNRP officials were at her funeral of her brother, an active member of the CNRP.
