A dozen Vietnamese nationals were scheduled to be deported yesterday after being arrested on Saturday in Kandal for illegal fishing and lacking visas, an official said.

Police confiscated their equipment and boats in which they had been living since July 18 on a tributary of the Tonle Bassac, said district chief Chhoeun Bunthorn. The group included five women and an unspecified number of children.

Last Thursday, officials rounded up 51 ethnic Vietnamese in the capital.

Seven didn’t have proper documentation and were deported on Saturday, said Uk Hai Sela, immigration department head of investigations.
